The Lyrics to For We Wrestle

I’m sitting here listening to Jordan lay down the guitar tracks to For We Wrestle and so excited for how it’s turning out. This is one of my ‘out there’ tunes and the title track to the album.  You could say it’s what Second Wind was to Mr. Brown.  I wouldn’t have put it on the album if not for how much my bass player’s wife loves this song.

If there was a video for this tune it would be me sitting at a poker table across Lucifer who is surrounded by a lot of fans and two bikini babes.

Lucifer is trying to convince me that I can have it all, riches, power and fame if only I surrender my soul.  My cocky response is to show how confident I am that in the end my Savior wins.

With all the songs on the project I’m very transparent, sometimes to the point of feeling uncomfortable (just wait until you hear Shadow).  There is no agenda with the music, half the songs don’t mention my love for Christ although it’s obvious with songs like For We Wrestle and Thank You Father that I’m a Jesus Freak.

Verse
There you sit in all your glory and your splendor
Sometimes I wonder if your follo-w-ers know better,
How you lie and cheat and steal to get their soul
Don’t they know, that you’re the father of lies
and can’t they see, how you destroy everything
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, no not me

Chorus
You took my best friend and you tried to take my dad
If you could you’d add my daughters to your clan
need I remind you we’ve been sanctified by Him
the son of God [ha ha] I bet that makes you mad.
there’s no need to discuss this anymore, Lucifer you will never have my soul

Verse
I see the pleasure and the riches and the power
All for me at any moment to devour
But I must say I think your poker face sucks,
I know your hand and I can call you on your bluff
so take your best shot any way you think you can,
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, no not me

Chorus
You took my best friend and you tried to take my dad
If you could you’d add my daughters to your clan
need I remind you we’ve been sanctified by Him
the son of God [ha ha] I bet that makes you mad.
there’s no need to discuss this anymore, Lucifer you will never have my soul

Bridge
[my soul] belongs to Him, the one who took my sin
It doesn’t matter where I’ve been, in the end my Savior wins.
For we wrestle, for we wrestle, for we wrestle, for we wrestle

Chorus
You took my best friend and you tried to take my dad
If you could you’d add my daughters to your clan
need I remind you we’ve been sanctified by Him
the son of God [ha ha] I bet that makes you mad.
there’s no need to discuss this anymore, Lucifer you will never have my soul
