This weekend’s fishing trip

This last weekend the boys went on our annual fishing trip.  It’s a good time to rest, catch some fish and enjoy the beauty that God has given us in Eastern Washington.

Personally, I’m not a fan of fishing.  Catching however is a blast and I love snagging the big one.  This year the fish weren’t biting.  At all.  All in all we had a few bites and only four fish caught with countless hours on the water.

Albert Einstein says that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Hmmm, sounds to me like fishing.

We were on the boat with the best gear to mark fish and yet none were biting.  We could see where they were on the fish finder and still not biting.  Did we give up?  No, we tried different lures, we tried different spots (using the fish finder) and we tried different poles.  And we were never disapointed.

There were no excuses, we were there to catch fish, so we went out as often as we could to accomplish our goal.

Can you imagine if the church approached “fishing for men” like we approached catching fish this past weekend?

Jesus said “You need to be fishers of men.” If the church treated fishing for men like fisherman fishing for food we would impact the world much greater than how we are currently.

We would try different lures, different spots, always sharing the good news.  Never disapointed just driven to accomplish the goal.

Wouldn’t that be nice?

I’m out. Do me a favor go cast the net of good news to everyone that will hear.
