After reading about Rob Bell’s call for evangelical Christians to adapt to culture ideals I was a little bummed then I looked at some of his past comments and beliefs and understood completely.
This guy has been off for quite some time.
I’m not going to waste my energy writing about why you should ignore what Rob Bell says because there is always going to be a Rob Bell out there.
So what do we do about those that claim to be teachers of the word and their opinions that differ from scripture?
We ignore them.
I read a John Wooden book and was so impressed that he never scouted his opponent. For those that don’t know John Wooden he was arguably the greatest coach to ever coach collegiate athletics. His winning percentage was over 800%.
My point in this comparison is that John Wooden sought after making sure his players were playing at the top of their game. He thought that if his team was playing at the top of their game it didn’t matter what the other team was doing. Obviously he was right. His teams destroyed the opponent.
I think it’s the same with walking the Christian walk. You have your guide-book (the bible) and for now it’s legal to study it in the United States. So read, read and read again. Especially the New Testament. All of it.
You should study the scriptures just like a basketball player would practice his moves.
You need to get plugged into a church that teaches the scripture as written by man, inspired by God and error free. If anyone in leadership at your church teaches something different, leave.
Focus on YOUR life as it relates to scripture and focus on teaching your kids to be grounded in the same scripture that you are studying. Don’t worry about scouting others.
Most importantly, you need to know that God hasn’t stopped talking. You need to hear from Him. If you not hearing from God give up Facebook, internet, tv, whatever you need to give up until you can hear God’s voice.
Over the next few weeks and months you are going to see and hear more things that differ from scripture from those you may have thought to be men of God.
Over the next few years you are going to receive persecution.
If you are not grounded now, you will fall victim to the clever presentation of lies or fear pain for believing in your faith. Get grounded now and you may have the privilage of dying for the man you claim saved you.
What an honor that will be.
